Job Title: Associate Director, Public Relations, Marketing & Communications, Media Relations Location: Boston, Massachusetts Position Type: Full-Time/Regular Salary Grade: Grade 50 BU’s award-winning External Affairs team is looking to add a savvy public relations leader and strategic thinker with robust media contacts, a passion for integrated campaigns, and a strong interest in science and research promotion. The Associate Director, Public Relations will: Devise and lead the execution of strategic public relations campaigns across traditional, digital, and social media. Leverage owned channels and conduct targeted media outreach to promote Boston University research and faculty expertise. Proactively identify new research, projects, and experts that align with BU's priority research areas. Provide counsel to colleagues across campus, leading events and trainings, and advising on promotional strategies. Collaborate across multiple teams, including the Office of Research, Federal Relations, and academic units. Required Skills: Excellent judgement and a proven track record of working with the media. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to engage leadership and stakeholders effectively. Critical evaluation of information and assessment of news value. Qualifications: B.A./B.S. or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or related fields. 5-8 years of related experience, including independent work and project leadership. Background in higher education, science, or agency setting. Experience successfully pitching and securing media stories. Superior attention to detail and collaborative skills. Ability to communicate science concepts to a general audience. Experience in integrated public relations campaigns and data analysis.
