Job Description
Position Summary As a Landscape Intern, you will have the opportunity to supplement your education with real-world experience in commercial landscaping. Through hands-on, rotational training, you will work closely with a variety of managers in areas including sales, design and estimating, plant procurement, construction and installation, irrigation installation and service, maintenance, and account management.
This is a 7- to 12-week program that will help you gain the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a successful career in the landscape industry.
Responsibilities Week 1: Commercial Maintenance - Shadow Field Operations Managers
- Schedule crews
- Operate lawn equipment
- Perform plant grooming
- Identify and pull weeds
Week 2: Commercial Construction/Installation - Plant trees and shrubs
- Grade and prepare beds and sod areas
- Lay sod
- Install pavers
- Dig and install irrigation
Week 3: Account Management - Proactively manage properties by inspecting and locating problems before the customer brings them to our attention
- Maintain job costs per guidelines
- Prepare and present proposals
- Review contract renewal processes and presentations
- Seek opportunities for enhancements that are consistent with customers' preferences and promote revenue growth
Week 4: Maintenance and Construction Sales - Develop new contract client sales
- Develop strategies that lead to sales within the territory
- Maintain records within MHA's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) of all sales leads and/or customer accounts
- Document activities for establishing and maintaining lines of communication while managing relationships with new, existing, and potential Commercial Maintenance and/or Construction clients
Week 5: Landscape Design/Estimating - Shadow VP of Construction Sales
- Prepare estimates
- Assist in design of projects
- Present designs to clients
Week 6: Irrigation Services - Perform irrigation service work, including service checks, startups, winterizations, and repairs
- Analyze and diagnose irrigation system problems
- Troubleshoot
- Learn water requirements for different turf and ornamental species
Week 7: Plant Procurement - Horticultural care of materials and grounds
- Negotiate plant prices
- Locate, order, and receive plants and trees
- Perform job costing for inventory and warranty
Weeks 8-12: Intern's Choice - Maintenance and Construction Sales

Job Requirements
Minimum Education or Training Requirements Landscape Interns must be currently enrolled in a college or university majoring in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Contracting, Landscape Design, Landscape Management, Plant Science, or other related fields.
