Job Description: Madison College's Dining Services is seeking a
Front of House (FOH) Supervisor to oversee operations at the Truax Campus.
The
Front of House Supervisor provides leadership and direct supervision to FOH staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining smooth day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include managing staff schedules, providing training, and facilitating communication between the FOH and Back of House (BOH) teams. The
FOH Supervisor will oversee cashiering, troubleshooting, and task delegation for areas like cashiers and the coffee shop, while ensuring cleanliness and accessibility for customers.
The
Front of House Supervisor will also handle POS system reporting, product, and price adjustments, and assist with inventory and ordering. Schedule flexibility is required, as the position may need to cover shifts outside regular hours.
The FOH Supervisor reports to the General Manager.
This is a full time, 52-weeks per year position with flexible working hours Monday - Friday between 6:30am - 5:00pm

Essential Responsibilities: - Manages, schedules, plans and assigns daily workload for all front of house staff. Assure staffing is within budgeted labor cost projections. Develops a positive and safe work environment. Adjusts staff schedules as necessary to meet immediate service needs. Communicates with work teams to determine operational needs, implementing and maintaining appropriate quality control standards, and coordinating services between areas. Accountable for providing adequate coverage or adjustments due to vacations and unscheduled absences. Responsible for assisting with recruiting, retention, performance management, professional development, conflict resolution, and modifying roles and responsibilities as needed.
- Daily cashiering, handling cash transactions with customers, scanning goods, collecting payments, issuing receipts, giving refunds, and change if applicable. Ensure cash accuracy and addresses any cash discrepancies within a timely manner. Balance cash drawers by counting cash at beginning and end of work shifts. Perform bank deposits.
- Works in conjunction with the Back of the House (BOH) Supervisor to ensure all areas in dining services are staffed and prepared to serve customers. Meet on a regular basis with BOH Supervisor to coordinate schedules, cleaning activities, station closures and evaluate customer feedback. Provide recommendations based on customer feedback to make improvements/changes where applicable. Work with BOH Supervisor to develop a workflow to effectively communicate with staff on a regular basis. Conduct cross-training to promote professional development and create an onboarding program to ensure training for new staff is consistent.
- Provide excellent customer service to assure customer needs are met. Work to develop process improvements to align positive customer experiences. Intake, evaluate and respond to customer issues immediately to resolve customer concerns.
- Develops standard operating procedures to ensure consistently high quality services are provided while minimizing costs. Hold regular staff meetings to provide updates, deliver announcements, solicit feedback, share information and bring about a team work environment.
- Responsible for monitoring and implementing technology initiatives and upgrades for process improvements. Take the lead to troubleshoot technological issues within the department.
- Oversee all sanitation for Front of House spaces at the Truax and Health campuses. Inform and train Front of House staff on any sanitation practices. Ensure areas are operational and following all college safety and sanitation protocols. Manages efforts to ensure that high standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained. Approves plans for maintaining a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for Front of House areas and equipment. Delegate or coordinate with Madison College facilities staff for maintenance of areas as needed.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism in representing the College, including confidentiality in all aspects of the position's responsibilities and adherence to policies, procedures, and other established guidelines as appropriate. Work cooperatively with team members and colleagues to contribute positively and constructively to the achievement of College objectives. Provide a high level of service to customers by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and partnerships.
- Ensure cohesion by working to cross-train staff and to identify opportunities to use staff skill sets and provide cross-organizational growth opportunities. Engage in self-directed personal and professional development related to emerging technologies and trends relevant to business needs. Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops for continued development of professional skills. Participate in campus committees, councils, and groups to increase campus-level knowledge and awareness. Proactively engage with committees, governance, and other departments to help guide and inform organizational decision-making. Participate in activities of relevant professional associations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to work in a team environment. In accordance with College management procedures, demonstrate organization, time management, resource management skills and knowledge of Madison College's personnel principles and procedures. Professionally reporting problematic staff issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high ethical and confidentiality standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with multiple and competing deadlines. Proven ability to pay attention to detail, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and prioritizing work. Critical thinking abilities to include crisis and situational management. Training practices for implementation of new processes.
- Demonstrated cash handling ability, experience with cash registers; manage financial transactions.
- Supervisory experience with waitstaff and cashiers, customer service relations, short and long term operational planning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Social Media platforms, and some knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) systems.
Minimum Requirements: - Associate Degree or equivalent working experience. * Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
- Five (5) years of directly related work experience required to successfully perform this position.
