Line Cook - Days FT
The Line Cook is responsible for consistently cooking and plating a wide variety of scratch prepared savory and sweet menu items for direct consumption by customers using processes such as slicing, dicing, scooping, pouring, frying, grilling, steaming, toasting, stacking, assembling, saucing and garnishing completed according to required service timelines, quantities, quality, food and occupational safety standards
Qualifications:
No degree/certificate required – ServSafe or similar food handlers card desired
No experience required – previous restaurant, hospitality or culinary school experience preferred
Minimum 16 years of age (minors 16-17 years old must provide proof of age/birth date)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Stock, prepare and organize cook line as necessary for shift menu and volume requirements
Ensure all food items are cooked according to established recipes, menu specifications and periodic customer special instructions
Safely and correctly utilize a variety of tools, equipment and appliances including but not limited to: thermometers, knives, utensils, whisks, spatulas, ladles, scoops, tongs, squeeze bottles, hand blenders, pans, pots, ovens, ranges, grills, broilers, reach-ins, racks, etc.
Ensure all variety of food items are cooked, plated and garnished correctly and consistently with high quality within service timelines required
Comply with portion sizes, cooking methods, date identification, food rotation and temperature rules
Keep walk-ins, food storage, cook line areas, equipment and tools clean and organized
Assist in control of kitchen equipment, inventory and supplies
Complete periodic equipment maintenance and deep cleaning activities
Assist in keeping floors clean and dry using brooms, mops, “wet floor” signs, etc.
Assist in keeping restrooms clean including picking up and pushing down trash, wiping counters, reporting low supplies and wet floors (after placing “wet floors” sign)
Assist in stocking supplies, including occasional use of stepladder
Perform work in a safe and sanitary manner, according to food handling and sanitation safety standards
Correctly wear, sanitize and maintain all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE)
Utilize all equipment carefully and according to instructions to prevent damage and injury
Other duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Performance: maintains teamwork and guest focus at all times; retains and follows instructions given throughout all work activities; abides by standards of conduct, food handling, sanitation and safety requirements; is self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
Attendance: has reliable transportation; arrives on time and ready to work by shift start time; works entire shift as scheduled; correctly clocks in/out utilizing POS system; works all days scheduled including holidays, weekends, and overtime
Appearance & Grooming: maintains uniform and body in clean condition; refrains from offensive odors such as excessive perfumes, colognes and body-odor
Demeanor & Behavior: performs all job duties in a professional teamwork customer-oriented manner; refrains from any using any profane, obscene, harassing, threatening or otherwise inappropriate language, actions or behaviors; alerts management of any personal or witnessed problems immediately
Attentiveness: focuses on effective completion of job duties and meeting the needs of customers and staff; refrains from distractions such as cellphones, social media, and idle chit-chat during work time
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): utilizes all required PPE (e.g. non-slip shoes, gloves, face masks, aprons); inspects and maintains PPE in safe and sanitary condition
Chemical Safety: only uses chemicals for which training has been provided; reads warning labels and Safety Data Sheets as needed
Work Conditions:
Working hours may include early mornings through evenings Monday through Sunday, including holidays
Majority of work involves communicating and interacting with both staff and customers while completing job duties, including occasional dealings with difficult or upset customers
Majority of work completed while standing and walking on dry, damp, and potentially slippery or wet floors
Work includes activities such as grasping, holding, pushing, pulling, bending, lifting at/above/below waist, scrubbing, scraping, stacking, sweeping, mopping, operating equipment, handling sharp items, handling hot items, handling greasy and dirty items
Most work is completed inside the building, but may still involve exposure to moderately hot, cold and/or humid air conditions both inside and outside
