Our Maintenance Technicians are eligible to participate in our laddering program in which you advance to a level II, III, or Equipment Operator with corresponding pay increases through years of service and obtaining job specific certifications.

Our Parks Division provides you an opportunity to work outside and help keep our parks beautiful while learning:
- Proper operation of equipment and tools
- Turf and field maintenance to include lining and painting fields for sports
- Playground equipment repair
- Basketball and tennis court maintenance
- Landscaping skills including, but not limited to, tree and hedge trimming, mowing, mulching, and sodding
- Proper pesticide and herbicide application
- How to set up for, execute, and break-down special events
What you'll do: This position performs a wide variety of manual, semi-skilled and skilled tasks required to perform maintenance and repair tasks of City-owned facilities and infrastructure. Depending on the area of assignment, the employee would need some acquired skills in the use of hand tools and power tools to perform a variety of tasks. The incumbent may also operate a variety of equipment requiring skill and manual dexterity such as, but not exclusive, street sweepers, small bulldozers, front-end loaders, dump, roll-off, claw, or crane trucks. An incumbent in this class may be responsible for cleaning and maintenance which requires building and grounds maintenance tasks in an assigned area in addition for being responsible for performing a variety of other tasks.
Essential Job Functions - Performs semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing and landscaping tasks in performing general maintenance of municipal facilities and property.
- Operates light trucks and other light power equipment which includes the operation of valves, levers, switches, hoses, clamps and other devices which are attached to and derive their power from heavier equipment.
- Sweeps streets and gutters; digs and refills ditches; installs sewers, drains and waters pipes; mixes mortar; carries tolls and materials for skilled workmen.
- Programs irrigation systems to water according to schedule and develops inventory of parts, supplies and tools necessary for efficient and effective performance.
- Repairs sprinkler heads, valves, PVC pipe and other commonly used pipe materials.
- Checks valves, controllers and pumps required to maintain efficient operation of irrigation system.
- Conducts regular system inspections to ensure continued and efficient operation and performs trouble-shooting exercises.
- Performs landscaping duties such as planting, watering, raking and mowing grass, felling trees, and digging stumps.
- Repairs breaks and holes in street surfaces using whatever materials are appropriate.
- Cleans and cares for public buildings and other municipal property with duties such as: sweep, mop, scrub floors; wash windows, walls and replenish supplies; enforce simple rules regarding use of facilities.
- Cleans and lubricates equipment and performs minor repairs incidental to proper maintenance of equipment.
- Participates in performing custodial tasks as applies to municipal buildings and other municipal property.
- Lines playing fields, drag, water, weed and maintain landscaped areas on baseball and football fields.
- Participates in setting up and taking down of benches, seats, chairs and other equipment.
- Performs duties in conjunction with City street maintenance such as erecting signs, barricades and clearing debris.
- Participates in planting, mowing, watering, cleaning and trimming municipal parks and grounds; planting trees, flowers, and shrubbery; and operating equipment necessary in completing assigned tasks.
- Climbs trees using ropes, hooks or a hoist mounted on a truck; performs necessary trimming and pruning to eliminate hazards and preserves the beauty of the trees on municipal streets and property; fells dead or dangerous trees and cuts dead limbs, and removes overhanging or damaged limbs.
- Responds to emergency calls.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - High School Diploma or GED.
- Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of the occupational safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of routine preventative maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining municipal buildings and property.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and practices used in grounds maintenance and landscaping.
- Skill in the use and safe operation of vehicles and equipment used in completing assigned tasks and knowledge of safety rules as required by the City.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools, materials and equipment used to maintain lawns and shrubs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the public.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy material, perform manual labor for extended periods of time under hot and humid conditions.
- Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality.
- Ability to read instructions, write simple reports, visually determine that work is being done correctly, differentiate colors, and hear instructions given in a quiet or noisy environment.
- Ability to work staggered schedules including evening hours when necessary.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties.
- Ability to perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements - Work environment is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
- The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
- May be exposed to toxic fumes, caustic chemicals, various wildlife and vermin.
- The incumbents in this position will be required to work pre, during and post emergency operations related to tropical storms, hurricanes, tornados, floods, fires or acts of terrorism.
Leave The City offers paid time off a maximum of 26 hours to eligible part-time employees.
