The National Marine Fisheries Services (NOAA Fisheries) Office of Communications enhances public awareness of NOAA Fisheries as a trusted authority and global leader in the science and management of living marine resources and ecosystems.

As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Science Podscaster to join our team and support our staffing and Office of Communications . This support is needed to increase effectiveness and efficiency in communicating with target audiences, including Congress; the commercial fishing industry; the aquaculture industry; recreational fishermen; traditional media and trade outlets; agency leadership; other federal agencies or partners; scientific and academic communities; and the interested general public. Professional video podcasts are critical to supporting the agencys overall strategic communications effort.

The Duties of the Senior Science Podcaster will include the following:

Produce and prepare 24 lively, professional podcasts each year each ranging from 10-20 minutes in length for online presentations that highlight agency researchers, their areas of expertise, research results, and unique milestones and achievements.

Tasks:

• Coordinate, script, and facilitate podcast production for the agency;
• Develop interview questions for scientific experts that result in plain language responses;
• Create, edit, and produce professional podcasts (typically 10-20 minutes);
• Produce audio with clarity, richness, immersive spatial sound, well-balanced mixing, detailed fidelity, and natural lifelike quality;
• Create short teaser promo videos for each podcast using Lumen5, Canva, or similar digital tools;
• Transcribe podcasts, ensuring they are accessible (i.e., Section 508 compliant);
• Research and recommend upgrades to audio recording and editing equipment;
• Track podcast analytics.

The Ideal Senior Science Podcaster will have the following:

• BA in communications or related field;
• 10+ years of experience producing podcasts;
• Experience interviewing senior level executives and scientists about complex and controversial topics;
• Experience with various types of audio recording and editing equipment;
• Excellent writing skills and previous on-air experience;
• Skilled in researching and processing segments for the podcast;
• Experience producing content in an audio/video production environment
• Excellent editorial, storytelling, and technical skills
