The Ohio Department of Agriculture is currently seeking candidates for ALB Survey Technician 1 (2 positions) in the Plant Health Division, Asian Long horned Beetle Program, headquartered in Clermont County. NOTE: Applicants only need to complete one application to be considered for both positions. NOTE: This is an unclassified project temporary position that includes some benefits.

The position is responsible for:

  • Assists higher-level survey technicians in obtaining survey data and receives training in use of more complex survey instruments
  • Establishes thorough 1–2-mile grids using maps to survey trees in order to detect signs of Asian Long horned Beetle (ALB)
  • Ensures trees in removal and/or treatment zones are addressed
  • Uses proper tools to inspect suspect trees for infestation of ALB
  • Collects samples of insects found that appear similar to ALB to further determine identity
  • Completes data sheet for non-resolved suspect trees
  • Enters survey location coordinates into Global Positioning System (GPS) for later mapping and data recording usage
  • Maintains maps to track progress of surveys
  • Responds to reports of alleged sightings of Asian Long horned Beetle (ALB)
  • Sets up survey locations and establishes scheduled itinerary in accordance with department guidelines
  • Assists with eradication projects as assigned: gains access to private properties
  • Identifies and uses paint to mark trees in assigned area
  • Records tree information (e.g., size, number, location) on data sheets
  • Compiles information from data sheets to provide necessary information to eradication managers
  • Performs quality control checks on data provided by other project employees
  • Guides contractors during tree removals and insecticide treatments
  • Operates laptop computer and related software to store, retrieve, and compile information: downloads GPS information into laptop computer
  • Uses email to send various information (e.g., daily itineraries, weekly reports, monthly reports, survey reports, eradication reports)
  • Maintains and secures all state issued property (e.g., equipment, maps, forms, data) while on assignment and returns it, intact, upon completion of assignment
  • Performs other related duties as assigned: assists in maintenance of survey equipment
  • Cleans and services survey vehicles
  • Stocks survey vehicles with necessary supplies and equipment for field work
  • Receives training in operation of more complex survey devices
  • Attends meetings regarding project timelines and/or plans

This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. ODA bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. Maternity Benefits

  • Expanded maternity health care benefits available to state employees enrolled in the Ohio Med PPO and Ohio Med NN (narrow network) medical plan options. Several prenatal, childbirth, and post-childbirth services are provided at no out-of-pocket cost to employees utilizing network providers.
  • Examples of services now covered by network providers at 100% include:

o Prenatal care, including physician visits and examinations.

o Home health care services designated as maternity care (for expectant members on bed rest).

o Inpatient claims for all types of delivery.

o Inpatient NICU claims, from birth through discharge.

o Postpartum care, including office visits for follow-up, and procedures/treatments directly related to maternity.

  • Medications prescribed for both antepartum and postpartum conditions (e.g., morning sickness, postpartum depression). Medical services provided by non-network providers will be processed at the applicable coinsurance, deductible, and out-of-pocket limits.
  • Prescription drugs that are directly related to maternity care are covered with no copay. The State of Ohio has collaborated with the prescription drug third-party administrator (OptumRx) to provide a list of covered medications that can be approved for zero copay via prior authorization from providers.

Qualifications

3 months or 3 months experience in field survey

AND must be able to provide own transportation
