Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist to join a supportive, dynamic team working with students in an elementary school setting. Key Responsibilities:
Assessment
Conducting Evaluations: Administering both standardized and informal assessments to assess students' speech and language needs remotely.
Data Collection: Utilizing digital tools to gather data, track student progress, and inform treatment decisions.
Intervention
Providing Therapy: Offering individualized or group therapy sessions through video conferencing, focusing on key areas such as articulation, language development, fluency, and social communication.
Creating Custom Materials: Developing engaging and interactive materials tailored to each student's specific needs, incorporating digital resources to enhance learning.
Collaboration
Working with Educators: Partnering with classroom teachers to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom environment.
Engaging with Families: Communicating regularly with parents and caregivers to discuss student progress, offer home support strategies, and address any concerns.
Documentation
Record Keeping: Maintaining comprehensive records of assessments, therapy sessions, and progress in line with school policies and regulations.
Reporting: Preparing detailed reports for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and actively participating in virtual IEP meetings.
Professional Development
Staying Updated: Continuously exploring best practices in teletherapy, keeping up with new tools, techniques, and research.
Participating in Training: Engaging in ongoing professional development opportunities related to teletherapy and technology.
Compliance
Adhering to Regulations: Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws governing telehealth services, including privacy regulations such as HIPAA.
Following Ethical Guidelines: Upholding the ethical standards of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in a teletherapy environment.
Technology Management
Utilizing Platforms: Familiarizing with teletherapy platforms and digital tools to ensure effective communication and therapy delivery.
Troubleshooting: Addressing technical difficulties as they arise to maintain a smooth, uninterrupted experience for students.
Flexibility and Adaptability
Adjusting Approaches: Tailoring therapy techniques and strategies to the engagement levels and needs of students in a virtual setting.
Maintaining Engagement: Finding creative ways to keep students motivated, focused, and excited during online sessions.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
Licensure: Active New York State licensure or eligibility for licensure.
Certifications: ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in a school setting is a plus.
Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with AAC devices and knowledge of IEPs is beneficial.
